From Laura: FEMA link
Hi everyone!!!!!!!!!!!
I didn't know of this webpage because I hadn't checked my yahoo account since I created it 1 week ago. But now I know ;)
I'm glad to know everybody is ok. I've missed you guys!!!!! I've been everywhere. I went to Baton Rouge during the storm, then I drove to Dallas and stayed there for few days. Then I went to San Antonio for a week and now I'm in Houston. Let me tell you that the saying "Everything is big in Texas" is totally true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
On the other hand, I would like to share some information with you:
1. My mobile phone number is 504-9319112. It seems to be working just fine.
2. I don't know if you are aware but you don't need to be a us citizen to get help from FEMA. You can apply for some help like money to pay for hotels, food, living expenses in general. They can also help you with moving expenses or to pay to storage your stuff. You can apply online www.fema.org or by phone. It's better to do it after 10 pm or very early in the morning.
3. You can also apply to the red cross: www.redcross to get money, food, clothes. They can also help you to find some transitory place to live (month to month payments). I've heard that if you go there, they are giving around $360 to each person or $600 per couple.
4. I know that the APS (American Physiological Society) is giving some help to it's members. You can go to the different societies your are member of to see if they are doing it as well.
5. Don't forget to register at Tulane to receive your payments by direct deposit.
6. If you have renter's or homeowners insurance there is a possibility that you can get money in advance for rent and living expenses (check on you respective policies).
7. This is a question for you. Does anybody know what Dr. Delafontaine is goingo to do???? I know Tulane is going to remain closed for 60-90 days. My problem is that I need to start my courses and the classes already started in all the universities.
8. Don't forget to have a little fun, :). I don't know about you guys but I'm tired of being stressed out.
Laura
